Desert Vibes: Where Desert Winds Meet Sonic Sands

Exploring the intersection of ethereal vocals and West African rhythms

In my latest musical exploration, "Desert Vibes," I embarked on a sonic journey that began with a chance discovery on Splice.

The catalyst was a captivating vocal sample from the talented Tori Letzler, a Los Angeles-based composer and vocalist whose work has graced productions like Alien: Romulus and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - Zombies.

Letzler, known for her innovative work on Netflix's "In from the Cold," brings her signature blend of industrial-inspired synths and ethereal vocals to the forefront.

Her unique vocal style served as the perfect foundation for this desert-inspired composition.

To build upon Letzler's amazing vocals, I incorporated some key sounds and elements:

  • Traditional West African instruments for authentic rhythmic texture

  • PaulXStretch time-stretching effects to create expansive, desert-like atmospheres

  • Regular VST instruments including Kontakt and Arcade for additional layering

  • And some regular ambiences of a desert tribe talking, with some sonification to create a musical vibe.

The result is a composition that captures the essence of desert landscapes - vast, mysterious, and mesmerizing. The accompanying video further enhances this atmospheric journey, visually representing the sonic textures and spatial qualities of the music.
